Psychiatric Communalism: A Counterargument to Asylum Psychiatry
The Institute Group Analysis (Athens), the Institute of Psychodrama – Sociotherapy, the Open Psychotherapy Centre and the Association of Community Therapists, Psychodrama and Sociotherapy co-organized a conference on April 1, 2017.
The purpose of the conference is to contribute to the reflection and criticism that, in recent years, on the course and evolution of psychiatric reform in our country.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the therapeutic experience of the Open Psychotherapy Centre, a Day Psychiatric Unit, which, since 1980, has been applying community treatment principles in the treatment of serious, mainly psychiatric disorders.
The conference includes theoretical presentations, discussion groups, and experiential workshops on topics such as therapeutic planning according to the therapeutic needs of each patient, the need for specialized social therapy and psychotherapy programs, and the importance of appropriate training for mental health professionals , the conditions that make community treatment programs sustainable and effective, etc.
