From the back cover:
The hand-held book is the first publication in the Greek language of a small, albeit, part of Malcolm Pines’ most important work. The fortunate coincidence of his long-term and close collaboration and friendship with the Director of the Open Psychotherapy Centre and President of the Institute of Group Analysis of Athens, Ioannis K. Tsegos, resulted in his regular visits to Athens and his participation in the activities of the two organizations.
Pines, a Psychiatrist, Psychoanalyst and Group Analyst, has published many books, is an editor in international libraries and has created publishing series. He has also written the introduction to many books and is the one who “gοt things on the right track” for many authors, both in Britain and abroad. He has been particularly concerned with many concepts of psychoanalysis and Group Analysis and has also pointed out the absence of some others in previous distinguished publications. He has differentiated Shame from Guilt, and has focused his interest on the In-Between, on the concept of the Mirror, dreams, etc., as well as on certain clinical categories, such as those of the Difficult Patient, the Borderline, the Narcissistic Patient, etc. At the same time, he had a distinguished career, as he held important positions at the Maudsley, St. Georges, Cassel and Tavistock Hospitals.
It is worth noting that Pines is a founding member of the Group Analytic Society, London, has served as president of the International Society of Group Psychotherapy, and was for a long time the editor of the journal Group Analysis.
It has become more widely accepted that “If Foulkes is the founder of Group Analysis, Pines embodies its establishment”!
